Biography

Bethany L. Baumgart, Au.D., is a clinical audiologist at Children’s Health℠ who cares for patients who have hearing and balance disorders.

Audiologists specialize in providing diagnostic, rehabilitative and other services for conditions that affect hearing and balance. They use tests to diagnose and treat these problems using techniques such as hearing aids, balance therapy or hearing rehabilitation. They also work closely with ear, nose and throat physicians (otolaryngologists) to care for the medical causes of hearing problems.

Dr. Baumgart earned her doctorate of audiology from Missouri State University in 2009. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in speech language pathology and audiology at the University of North Texas.

Dr. Baumgart specializes in cochlear implants. She serves as director of the adult cochlear implant program at UT Southwestern. She is skilled in the evaluation of patients for cochlear implants and programs the implants to meet their unique specifications.

Dr. Baumgart also evaluates patients for auditory brainstem implants, which provide hearing for those who cannot benefit from traditional hearing aids or cochlear implants. She maps and programs auditory brainstem implants, as well.

To check hearing loss and function of the inner ear, Dr. Baumgart performs a variety of audiological assessments and otoacoustic emissions tests. She also performs balance and vestibular evaluations, including videonystagmography (VNG), rotary chair testing, electrocochleography (ECOG), vestibular evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) testing and platform posturography.

Dr. Baumgart is an active member of the American Academy of Audiology and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
