Biography

Corinne Anton, PhD, ABPP, is the Director of the Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Program at Children’s Health℠ and is a dedicated psychologist to The Heart Center. She is an Associate Professor of psychiatry at UT Southwestern. 

When a child is born with a heart problem, it can affect how their brain develops — which can change how they learn and behave. By identifying learning and developmental challenges as well as other issues as early as possible, Dr. Anton is able to support her patients to help them reach their full potential. 

“At Children’s Health, we want to do more than save lives — we want to improve success in life after heart surgery,” she says. “We want our patients to feel supported, recognize their potential, and fulfill their dreams and goals. I find my job very fulfilling because it allows me to be a part of each child’s journey to thrive and succeed.” 

Dr. Anton’s role extends to helping patients cope with heart failure and their ventricular assist devices so they receive the support they need to stay healthy and follow their treatments. Dr. Anton has also supported the implementation of the Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program (NIDCAP) in The Heart Center at Children’s Health. NIDCAP is an evidence-based developmental care program for intensive care units that improves developmental outcomes and increases parental attachment. 

Dr. Anton educates and trains the next generation of providers by working with psychology students, interns, and fellows. She is actively involved in psychology research. Her interests include neurodevelopmental outcomes among congenital heart disease patients, with a focus on fetal risk factors, longitudinal impacts of electronic device use, and physical activity on neurocognitive outcomes. 

Dr. Anton received her doctoral degree from the American Psychological Association (APA) accredited clinical psychology doctoral program at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Her doctoral training focused on adult and adolescent interventions with a variety of diagnoses and clinical presentations. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship in clinical child psychology at Children’s Health. She is board certified in Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology.

Dr. Anton has received the Psychological Services Peer Recognition Award multiple times and has been an invited attendee at the Emerging Leader Acceleration Program at Children’s Health.
