Biography
Ishani Kumar, M.D., is a Pediatric Neurologist at Children’s HealthSM and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She has a special interest in caring for children, teens and young adults with migraines, tension headaches, concussions and other conditions associated with headaches.
“Headaches run in my family and I know how limiting they can be,” Dr. Kumar said. “Migraines are the most common reason for referral to pediatric neurology and one of the leading causes of disability in adolescents and young adults. It is paramount to treat patients with migraines or other headache disorders early to help prevent disability. There are many treatment options available and I love being able to tailor specific treatment plans for my patients.”
Dr. Kumar earned her medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. She then completed her residency in Child Neurology at the University of Michigan Hospitals and a fellowship in Pediatric Headache Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Her care philosophy focuses on helping patients and families understand the many headache treatments available and working together to select the best treatment for their child. Treatment approaches could include dietary changes and supplements, neuromodulation (devices that stimulate nerves to prevent or treat headaches) and procedures like Botulinum Toxin or peripheral nerve blocks.
Outside of work, Dr. Kumar enjoys traveling with her husband and son, searching for great food around the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, pickleball, baking and New York Times games.
“Migraines are the most common reason for referral to pediatric neurology and one of the leading causes of disability in adolescents and young adults.”
