Inflammation in the small and medium arteries caused by pediatric polyarteritis nodosa can lead to serious damage to organs and body systems, including the heart, joints, kidneys, nervous system and digestive system.
Polyarteritis nodosa in children is caused by an immune system malfunction. It often occurs in children who have Kawasaki disease.
