What to expect at your Thrive appointment

What can I expect from our first visit through my child's 5th birthday?

Starting with your baby’s first visit, you will work with a dedicated nurse practitioner or physician assistant who sees your child for routine and sick visits. This team serves under the supervision of the medical director, a board-certified UT Southwestern pediatrician. Your child’s care team is also available by phone for urgent problems after normal clinic hours. 

We monitor your baby’s overall health, coordinate specialized care for complicated diagnoses and evaluate his or her developmental progress. Your child’s care team may include experts from UT Southwestern and Children’s Health, such as:

• A pediatrician experienced in NICU follow-up care
• Pediatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants
• Child psychologist
• Child development specialists
• Pediatric registered dietitian
• Social worker
• Child life specialist
• Speech therapist
