Children’s Medical Center Dallas includes a 17,000-square-foot courtyard. It is located next to a full-service Starbucks and expanded Butterfly Atrium. The primary function of this space is to reduce stress and anxiety while promoting overall well-being for staff, patients and visitors at Children’s Health.
The courtyard repurposes the space that was once the hospital's main entrance. The courtyard can be accessed at any time.
Its amenities include:- About 3,000 square feet of shade canopies that resemble a butterfly's wings when viewed from floors above.
- A central artifical turf lawn and rolling hills with rubberized surfacing.
- Eight built-in child-friendly musical insturments, including chimes, drums and bells.
- Pleasant nighttime lighting.
- An upgraded area for therapy dogs and their handlers.

Children's Medical Center Plano
The Women’s Auxiliary outdoor playground at Children’s Medical Center Plano is a 6,000-square-foot playground featuring activities for children. Located near the coffee shop and just outside the main atrium of the Plano hospital, the playground provides respite and promotes well-being for patients and visitors.
The all-abilities playground offers:- Two separate play areas: a designated area for patients 2-5 years of age and a play area for patients 5-12 years of age.
- Climbing, swinging, and spinning components that promote the development of different skill sets in children.
- Child-friendly musical instruments, including chimes, drums, and bells.
- Shade structures over playground equipment and a rubberize.
