Biography

Abhay Divekar, M.D., is a pediatric cardiologist at Children’s Health℠ and Professor at UT Southwestern. He specializes in interventional cardiology, a heart specialty that uses catheter-based treatments to treat congenital heart disease, structural heart disease and other heart conditions. Dr. Divekar is passionate about caring for children using the latest minimally invasive methods. 

He earned his medical degree from Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College. Dr. Divekar completed his residency training in pediatrics at The Brooklyn Hospital Center. He also completed his pediatric cardiology fellowship training at NYU Langone Medical Center. Dr. Divekar completed an additional advanced fellowship training in interventional cardiology and cardiac critical care at the University of Michigan, C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.

“I have the privilege to help someone every day,” says Dr. Divekar. “I live by the mantra – Where there is a will, there is a way! I know I am successful not when I make a diagnosis or treat the disease, but when the child and family think of me as a friend and not a doctor; that is the reward I strive for.” 

Dr. Divekar is an active researcher, working to improve interventional cardiology techniques that positively impact patient care. His research has been published in numerous journals, and he has given presentations to other pediatric cardiologists internationally. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Pediatric and Congenital Interventional Cardiovascular Society.

Dr. Divekar enjoys going on RV trips with his family, running, biking and listening to audiobooks.
