Biography
Elisa Basora-Rovira, M.D., is a pediatric physician who practices at Children’s Health℠ and an Assistant Professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Basora specializes in respiratory and sleep medicine. She cares for children who have a wide range of lung and sleep issues including asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis (CF), sleep disordered breathing (SDB), pediatric insomnia and narcolepsy in children.
She’s always been fascinated with the lungs and how they work. “The lungs orchestrate much of what happens in the other organs and the entire body,” says Dr. Basora. “I want to diagnose and treat children with lung and sleep issues and help them get better.”
Dr. Basora earned her medical degree from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico in 2009. She completed her Pediatrics residency at University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine (University Pediatric Hospital) in 2013. Afterward, Dr. Basora completed a Pediatric Pulmonology fellowship at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital (Holtz Children’s Hospital) in 2016. And, she completed a Sleep Medicine fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center in 2017.
Dr. Basora grew up in Puerto Rico in a family of seven children. Her decision to become a doctor flowed naturally from her family experience.
“I enjoyed helping my parents raise my younger siblings. And I knew at a very young age that I wanted to work with children,” says Dr. Basora. “Today, I want to be an advocate – a voice – for children and their needs.” Dr. Basora also serves as an assistant professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
When not at the hospital, Dr. Basora likes to spend time with her husband and family. She also enjoys cooking, yoga, traveling and watching movies.
“I want to be an advocate – a voice – for children and their needs.”
