Biography

Joanne Jacobs, APRN, PNP-C, is a Nurse Practitioner in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Children’s Health℠. She specializes in caring for children with heart conditions requiring surgery.

“I absolutely love seeing the resilience of children and young adults as they recover from open heart surgery,” Jacobs says. “I enjoy educating families about their child’s heart condition and making sure they are fully informed prior to cardiac surgery. I also enjoy celebrating the success and seeing the grateful families at the postoperative follow-up.”

Jacobs earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Austin and her Master’s degree as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from Texas Woman’s University.

“I have a special interest in educating families and helping parents understand what different studies mean during preoperative and postoperative appointments — always in clear, non-medical terms,” she says.

Jacobs has assisted research teams in various studies aiming to improve cardiothoracic surgery. She also helps coordinate the annual Heart Center Family Picnic, supports Heart Camp (Camp Moss) check-in and participates in educational lectures for medical staff in Zambia.

Outside of medicine, Jacobs enjoys hiking—especially when visiting her college-aged daughter in Boulder, Colorado. At home, she loves spending time with her husband and friends, walking her dogs, riding her Peloton, running or walking on her treadmill and using her rowing machine. She is also a proud band mom and enjoys helping support her youngest’s band and color guard activities.
