Biography
Michael McDowell Jr., D.O., is a Pediatric Pulmonologist at Children’s Health℠ and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He has a special interest in interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension and bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Passionate about caring for children with complex and rare respiratory conditions, Dr. McDowell is committed to delivering the highest quality of care grounded in the latest evidence-based guidelines and international best practices.
“I am passionate about practicing pediatric pulmonary medicine because it allows me to build long-term, meaningful relationships with children and their families as they navigate complex, chronic respiratory conditions,” Dr. McDowell said. “I am deeply committed to providing compassionate and empathetic care, always striving to understand each patient’s unique journey and needs.”
Dr. McDowell earned his medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He then completed his residency in Pediatrics at Children's Mercy Hospital and a fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonary Diseases at Baylor College of Medicine - Texas Children’s Hospital.
“This field gives me the privilege of making a lasting difference in the lives of my patients – supporting them not only through critical illness but also through the milestones of growth and healing,” he said.
Outside of work, Dr. McDowell enjoys working out, playing with his dogs, spending time outdoors and traveling.
