Camp Ailihpomeh

The mission of Camp Ailihpomeh (Hemophilia spelled backwards) is to serve the needs of boys from age 7 to 17 with bleeding disorders, providing a camping experience for a group of children who have traditionally been excluded from participating in other summer camp programs. The experience of camping with other children in a natural outdoor setting strengthens the child’s ability to cope with the daily physical and emotional challenges of a disability and/or chronic illness. The best explanation for the camp’s continued success is the positive emphasis on what is possible, despite any limitations imposed by their bleeding disorder.

Eligibility for Camp

  • Males
  • Diagnosis
  • Campers ages 7-14 (turning 7 by the first day of camp)
  • Leadership ages 15-17 (turning 15 by the first day of camp)
  • Camper must be followed at one of the participating Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTC) listed on the Resources & Links page
    • Children who have moved to another state and are seen by the HTC in that other state are not eligible
    • Children not followed by a HTC, are not eligible
    • Children in another state who are still followed by a HTC in Texas for their primary hemophilia care are eligible
  • El Paso patients who are not attending the El Paso camp will be invited
  • Children cannot attend both camps due to limited resources/space
  • El Paso patients are subject to the same eligibility rules

Applications

Applications are mailed out by each HTC to eligible individuals approximately the middle of April. The deadline for submitting the application will be in June and will be on the application. If you have not received an application and are eligible to attend, please contact your HTC. All participating HTCs are listed on the "Resources & Links" page.
