Biography

Rafael de Oliveira Sillero, M.D., is a Pediatric Neurosurgeon at Children’s Health℠ and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at UT Southwestern.

He specializes in treating cerebrovascular diseases including aneurysms, malformed arteries and stroke. He has a particular interest in moyamoya angiopathy and in treatment using revascularization.

Dr. Sillero’s dual expertise in neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology – he’s among a small handful of physicians who have experience applying techniques like endovascular embolization to children – expands our ability to help kids overcome stroke and many other conditions.

Dr. Sillero started his medical career in Brazil, earning his medical degree from the Petropolis School of Medicine and completing his residency at the Sao Paulo School of Medicine. He came to UT Southwestern to complete fellowships in pediatric neurosurgery and neuroradiology. He joined Children's Health in 2019.

Dr. Sillero chose to practice at Children's Health because of our collaborative work environment and our focus on compassionate care.

“I saw how important it is for families to have access to specialists who understand kids and know how to tailor treatment to them,” Dr. Sillero says. “That made me decide to shift my career.”
