ADN Apprenticeship Program

ADN Apprenticeship Program

The Associate Degree Nurse (ADN) Apprenticeship Program at Children's Health℠ is a series of learning and work experiences designed to assist ADN graduates transition into their professional role while completing a baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) bridge program. After completing the 12 week apprenticeship, program participants will progress to the Children’s Health CCNE accredited Nurse Residency Program.  

The ADN Apprenticeship Program will:

Facilitate role transition of ADN prepared team members who have obtained RN licensure, into the CCNE Accredited Nurse Residency Program with concurrent enrollment into and RN to BSN Bridge Program.

Foster professional development of the team members through focused clinical and instructional experiences to contribute to clinical competence, increasing self-confidence and the development of escalation, critical thinking, and evidence-based practice and research skills.

  • Benefits

    ADN graduate nurses who participate in the apprenticeship will benefit from: 

    • Guidance from dedicated, trained preceptors during the orientation phase of the program 

    • Mentored clinical relationships with Residency Facilitators (RFs), supporting nurses’ development as professionals  

    • Structured educational experiences designed to support development of baccalaureate nursing skills and clinical judgement

    • The opportunity to gain experience in clinical practice in an environment committed to learning

  • Eligible Participants/Application Process

    Application open: January 15th, 2024

    Application close: January 26th, 2024

    • ADN new graduate nurse with less than 6 months of clinical experience
    • Accepted into a RN-BSN Bridge academic program 
    • Active Texas RN license
  • Nurse Residency Program Details

    The Nurse Residency Program (NRP)

    The Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program is a yearlong residency built upon evidenced-based curriculum. During the program, nurse residents  will participate in a series of learning and work experiences that are geared toward transition to a competent professional. At the end of the program, nurse residents will have improved confidence, competence, prioritization, communication skills, and decreased stress levels.

    Program Objectives

    Upon completion of the NRP, the nurse resident will:

    • Make the transition from advanced beginner nurse to competent professional nurse in the clinical environment
    • Develop effective decision-making skills related to clinical judgment and performance
    • Provide clinical nursing leadership at the point of care
    • Strengthen his or her commitment to nursing as a professional career choice
    • Formulate an individual development plan for his or her new clinical role
    • Incorporate research-based evidence linked to practice outcomes into the care he or she provides
