Biography
Colin Edward Kane, M.D., is a cardiologist who practices at Children's Health℠ and specializes in general cardiology and fetal cardiology, with an interest in echocardiography and care of patients with single ventricle heart disease.
Dr. Kane serves as the service line director for Cardiology at Children's Health, Plano. He is also an clinical professor of pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
"I enjoy working with kids and their families," says Dr. Kane. "It's rewarding to identify children's heart problems- sometimes even before birth- and help them get care, and reassure them when everything is okay."
Dr. Kane earned his medical degree at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in 2002. Afterward, he completed an internal medicine and pediatrics internship and residency at Christiana Care Health System in Newark, Delaware. In 2009, Dr. Kane completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta.
In both work and play, Dr. Kane is always up for a challenge. He runs, bikes, and competes in various triathlon races, including the Ironman, known as one of the most physically demanding sporting events in the world. He also enjoys spending time with his family, including his two young boys who also play sports.
One aspect of his job that Dr. Kane enjoys most is following up with patients years later.
"Because I do fetal cardiology, I can sometimes diagnose a problem before a patient is even born," says Dr. Kane. "So I've known some of these kids for as long as they’ve been alive, before their actual birthday, so to speak. It's fun to see them as they grow and mature into young men and women."
