Obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal anomaly (OHVIRA) (Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome)
Obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal anomaly (OHVIRA) (Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome) is a rare condition that causes a female to be born with a double uterus.
What is obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal anomaly (OHVIRA) (Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome)?
Obstructed hemivagina and unilateral renal anomaly syndrome (OHVIRA or HWW) – sometimes known as Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome – is a rare disorder in which a female baby is born with two uteruses.
OHVIRA also causes renal agenesis, which means that one or both of the kidneys do not properly develop while the baby is in the womb.
If not properly treated, OHVIRA can lead to major complications such as endometriosis or infertility.
